beautiful, big, friendly girl

GSD/Ridgeback mix /Chinook 94 lbs
BellaBoa.. what a dream girl! She is a super HAPPY, tall lanky, soft, wiggly fabulous mix of German shepherd and Rhodesian Ridgeback...maybe with a little Chinook in her mix. She's is absolutely gorgeous and has a pronounced ridge on her back with two perfect whirls! She has a lot of GSD breed traits especially in her play style and gait. She's an extremely affectionate dog who is eager to live her life as it was meant to be! BellaB is a trainers favorite here at the farm.. with her eager to please, ready to go attitude! She learns very quickly and is easy to engage with which makes her a blast to work with! She is naturally welcoming with new people and appropriately confident in all new situations... BellaB is a hop in the car and go anywhere kinda dog!
Initially, we thought BellaB would need tons of exercise simply because of her possible breeds and size.. while it is true that she needs mental and physical outlets and is alert and active on walks.. we have discovered she is surprising super relaxed and chill inside! You will not see BellaB barking at the front of her kennel demanding food or attention. Even during crazy loud thunderstorms, Bella is snoozing away right through all the commotion! During her nightcheck walk, you sometimes have to convince her to get up and out.. she so badly wants to stay in bed and relax!

Delightful Bella loving life!
|
Off leash in the yards she comes when called, downs on command and enjoys chasing balls and likes all sorts of running games! Most of the time BellaB is lovely on the leash BUT.. if she spots something really interesting her default setting is.. GO!! And GO she does! We've been working resetting her impulse to chase/rush and blast off with obedience commands like heel, look and sit at my side. The thing is she doesn't really seem to know how big and therefor strong she is and is so eager to greet everyone she sees she can forget your'e holding on the the other end of her leash!
Jamie has done a great job of finding playful ways to keep BellaB engaged and responsive to her human.. even with distractions whirring by.. Bella is really catching on to the plan and loves being praised for doing the right thing!! She is a very smart dog with a joyful personality.. she's a "belle of the ball" kinda girl.. wants to have fun and be loved!!

BellaB in a Nutshell..
Greeting Style
BellaB’s greeting style is LUSCIOUS and full of love! She absolutely loves everyone she meets. When she walks by someone..(anyone!) and catches their eye, her tail picks up speed and her whole body starts to wiggle. She will swoop right in, leaning her side into you while she soaks up all the pets she can get. She’s a big girl and she could very innocently knock little’s ones down.
Children
Our observations of Bella Boa’s super friendly nature tell us that she could really enjoy the company of respectful and mature kids. Because of her large size and tolerance level, we recommend she goes to a home with children aged 10 and up.
Greeting Other Dogs
Bella’s greeting style with other dogs varies. While she does enjoy the company of dogs whose play style compliments hers, seeing other dogs from a distance can be a cause for concern for her. We always allow Bella extra space when walking by other dogs and we don’t generally have her meet dogs unless they’ve gone on a nice parallel walk together to keep her within her comfort zone.
Dog-Dog Play Style
As said above, Bella enjoys playing with her dogs whose play style compliments hers. She is a strong yet sensitive girl. Her play can easily get out of hand if she gets too excited and could worry the other dog. On the flip side, a dog who is edgy or insecure may place Bella in that state of mind as well.. We match Bella with super playful, confident dogs. She is a very true example of her mixed breeds!

A Walk with Bella Boa
BellaB is forward, strong, super connected and eager to please. She wants to work WITH her human partner and when she understands what is expected, she responds beautifully! When she first arrived, she could absolutely pull one of us down without even trying.. or noticing! When she would spot a horse or another dog from afar, she could spin into a defensive reaction.. barking, bouncing.l at the end of the leash. After a few weeks with some foundational leash work and clear, consistent communication from her handlers, a walk with Bella has been transformed. She is incredibly attentive (she has a very high intelligence level!!) On a walk, she will stay in tuned with her knowledgeable handler, walk at our pace and ignore stimuli to check in. Of course upon adoption, her specific “how to” handling skills will be shared for a fabulous and easy transition into a new home!
Known Commands
Sit - stay - down - leave it - come - give paw - with me(form of heel) - look - treadmill - drop it
