Benjamin is a wonderfully inquisitive little guy. You take one look at him and immediately notice his adorable curly tail.. we’re not entirely sure what breed mix he is that gives him that unique feature but we absolutely love it!
It is our nature to be curious about all dogs but when we first met Benjamin he was quite captivating.. we wanted to get to know this little guy and see what personality lies underneath his obvious apprehensions. When he first arrived, it looked like he had landed on another planet. He cautiously slinked around taking in all that is around him. Looking with his eyes, smelling with his nose.. he didn’t trust us yet but became awfully motivated to become friends when we took out some smelly, yummy chicken!
After a few hours, Benji’s posture went from low and guarded to head up and questing… just like that.. he was in exploration mode! Once he realized this was a safe space, he slowly let his guard down. He began approaching us more and more, letting us pet him under his chin and even climbed into our laps. It has now only been a week since he arrived and he has really bonded with some of the handlers here.. he greets us with his happy wiggly dance and jumps on our legs begging for attention.
For such an initially nervous little guy it did not take him that much time to turn around. He is a real cuddle bug and won’t pass up the chance to snuggle up next to you on the couch. Benji doesn’t like to be grabbed or approached if he’s not ready. We recommend he goes to a home without young children aged 15 and up.
Benji surely loves other dogs! He takes direction from them and grows a level of confidence around them. We find he is much more willing to walk on a leash and move forward into uncertain territory when another dog he gets along with is present. We believe Benji could go to a home with another dog so long as the other dog is not too rowdy.
Benji would be perfect for an adult only, quiet home with people that have the time to let him blossom into himself. He is a lovely, active little companion just waiting for “his person” to come find him and live happily ever after!
Stay tuned for updates as Benji continues to settle in and if you’re interested in meeting him fill out an application!
