Browney's Journey
scruffy mix / male / 2-4 y /34 lbs
Browney isn't the scared out of his wits adolescent he was when we took him in a few years ago.. Browney is a classic Love Dogs doggie.. he requires that extra time we specialize in, as well as skilled care giver/handlers who could feel/sense/judge just what he needed at a given time. Browney is fearful of novelty .. its as if his nerves are exposed! He's a sweet and loving, QUIRKY little puzzle of emotions! We all say we can see his aura.. that odd wirey fringe that tops his coat!!! But that is how he is.. you can't help but love him.. he tries his sweet heart out to do the right thing!
Initially Browney was fearful of pretty much everything, except for our Sharon, he right away he sought her "love bubble" & found safety and security there! Indoors when Sharon wasn't present, he found a reliably safe spot to hide in a cubby hole in the desk so any time someone new walked in the office, Browney would disappear behind the shadow of his cubby!!
Outdoors was challenging because Brown was overwhelmingly threatened by the uncertainty of what he might encounter... strangers approaching, cars passing, random noises, the wide open space of the outside, door shutting... you name it, Brown was scared of it! His tail rarely left that spot between his legs!
Gradually, he included all of us in his safe love bubble.. which was very touching for each one of us! Now when he sees any one of his friends approaching he wiggles and play bows and leaps to greet us! He gets sooooo excited when he sees one of his trusted people.. he'll do quick spins that almost turn into flips as his happy tail wags from side to side! His body wiggles so much it lifts his feet off the ground! You can't help but smile!!
Brown Town is in many playgroups, he truly enjoys the company of other dogs and plays beautifully with pretty much every quirky/neurotic dog in our care!! He completely lets loose when he is in the yards playing with his buddies, big and small.. Prescott, Penny, Savannah, Rockford.. They race up and down, skidding around the trees and wrestling about! Brown has even begun to help welcome some of our scared new arrivals!! For Browney pack walks are the awesomest!!!! He is still getting braver by the day.. he and his handlers have developed wonderful coping skills when presented with an "impending threat".. refocusing on sit, stay, look, down, touch, and heel are all a part of his vocabulary and redirects his attention in a way that makes him feel good! Jamie has even schooled Brown to have a wonderful recall and will come when called (almost) every time!
Browney is a journey dog... He's not a dog you bring home and "have"..... he is a dog that requires connection, attention and praise... someone who will as we do, enjoy his quirky, somewhat neurotic, precious self! He'd do well to have a loyal, reliable friend who likes the idea guiding Browney through his worries ( there will always be things that make him feel concerned!) & reinforce the positive responses he has learned here so he will continue to truly & fully enjoy life!
Browney had a professional grooming and was SUCH a good boy!! Sandi our fabulous serenading dog groomer and friend fell in love with Browney.. as we all have.. He is incredibly endearing!

Dog Trainer Jamie notes...... as with every dog in our care, we put our heads together & came up with happy playful ways to help Browney relax. His plan included lots of fresh chicken as treats which made every experience a positive one. As Brown was ready, he learned a bunch of fun, confidence building exercises like using the treadmill, problem solving, agility jumps, and balance games.
Recognizing his affinity for fellow dogs we made sure he had regular & varied playgroups with all his doggie friends! He is still getting braver by the day.. he and his handlers have developed wonderful coping skills when presented with an "impending threat".. refocusing on sit, stay, look, down, touch, and heel are all a part of his vocabulary and redirects his attention in a way that makes him feel chill! Brown now has a wonderful recall and will come when called (almost) every time!
A favorite activity of his is long lining in the paddock! Brown went from a frozen panic stricken stare out in the distance looking for threats to loosely galloping through the fields feeling the great pleasure of liberty. Brown always rolls when out in the fields.. he rubs his face in the grass and will sometimes slide 10 feet on his back wiggling on! We are helping him to respond to new people by using his natural doggie skills.. relax ..assess the person by feeling energy.. using scent and reading body language instead of right away assuming stranger = danger!!
Brown is a much beloved scruffy, adorable sweet dog.. We are all enjoying our time with him.. he makes us all so proud!! His thank yous are the best.. He's a GREAT and eccentric dog!! We all love him to bits!

Hahahahaha!! Heres our darling Browney doing his Browney slide and roll and face smearing!! Even when one this mates tries to entice him off for play.. he has to complete the ritual! We think its a way he smooths out his aura! He's all in on the game with other dogs once he's finished his slide! As you can see he is indeed a quirky sweet boy!!! You can hear Jamie chuckling with delight.. thats what Browney does!! He's a good boy!
