Meet Mr. Hopps... a lot and up quite high!!! He is an affectionate, lively, wonderfully engaged, utterly adorable little sparkler of a dog... He is a sweet, loyal little guy who had a home locally here in Westchester for 7 years. Sadly, some fearful behaviors were misinterpreted by his owners who eventually surrendered him. We are glad for Hop and his owners that they reached that decision. This BTW is a good reason to explore the breed personality traits and needs way more than the appearance of a dog while considering your availability, time constraints and experience. JRTs are fiery smart and energetic dogs.. like all dogs, they need to have their drives fulfilled. Its easy to fall for the cute little puppy but its wiser to ask yourself just what kind of canine companion best suits your lifestyle and interests. We took Hop because we were able to understand him. We have a thing for the misunderstood, frustrated little darlings! Its what we do!
When Hop first arrived he was a nervous wreck.. he missed his home, his family and didn't understand what was going on!! We gained his trust by including him in group activities with our playful pack of Littles .. he watched as they approached staff for affection and ply.. we gave him all the time and space he requested and like all dogs he wanted in on the fun and friendship! He allowed us to stroke him.. come and go as he pleased and eventually was ok getting leashed up for outside sniffing adventures! Hop has come to feel so at home here and has been able to relax and enjoy his all the aspects of his life what an awesome place he had just landed in! His happy, tennis ball loving, affectionate and brave little personality started shining through.
Hopper was named, most likely given because he literally can hop 4 ft in the air! Straight up vertically without any running start. He's AMAZING! and super athletic. Hopper is a major ball player. Fetch is one of his most beloved activities but he does fancy playing with all toys... tug, chase, shake! He'll even return a ball right to your feet for you to throw it again!
Hopper spends his days at Love Dogs playing with his buddies Navy and his other littles friends, going on long walks and enjoying some fun training activities to help him gain confidence. While he is not a hyper active dog, he does enjoy being outdoors and moving about. He has a hard time trusting new people so we are doing all we can to help expand his world and show him meeting new people is a good thing!!! He knows how to walk on the treadmill and is learning clicker training, too!
In his previous home, they said Horatio got attached to one person and became protective when someone came near him when he was with that one person. We know what these issues look like from experience and know how to help an adopter work through them in their home. We are just smitten with this little delightful cutie
