Farewell Sweet T.J.
We recently had to bid farewell to our beloved T.J. Teej was as sweet as he was handsome, a true friend to us all - people, dogs, horses. Though he hadn't been dealt the best hand in life health-wise, he wouldn't let that stop him from being the happy, silly guy we always knew him to be. Love Dogs just won't be the same without T.J. around. We are forever grateful for the time we got to share and all the happy memories that will keep him alive in our hearts. We'll miss you Teej. We hope you know how loved you were here at your HOME.
A Tribute to Gus
We had to say good-bye to our sweet boy Gus. This full of life boy outlived his diagnosis by more then 2 years.. and you better believe he lived every day with zest and lolling tongue out happiness. We thank all of you who donated jolly-balls to make Gus’s life even more enjoyable. Gus will be greatly missed by all of us here at Love Dogs each and every day. While he has left a massive void in the space here and in our hearts, we are relieved he is finally pain free and at peace. We love you forever, Gus. Run free, sweetheart.
Sweet Jeni
We are so incredibly heartbroken to share the news of Jeni’s sudden passing from a heart attack on Sunday 10/31.
For those that don’t know, Jeni was a remarkable German shepherd rescued from a horrible life on a chain. After we pulled her, we quickly figured out she had multiple abnormalities with her heart, all of which could cause a heart attack on their own.. let alone all of the issues combined. We knew this could happen.. but who could prepare for such a thing?
From the start, were determined to give Jeni the best life she could have ever dreamed of. And we did just that. Her days were filled lots of long walks, porch BBQ hang outs, cuddle time and tons of freedom playing in the yards. She had a uncanny zest for life and couldn’t help but giggle at her antics.
Jeni was the most goofy, silly and uncoordinated shep you’d ever meet. She routinely fell off the couch and ALWAYS greeted us with joyful leaps with toys in her mouth. She had no problem plopping her giant body in your lap and drooling on you with affection… and we loved every second of it! You would think a dog that came from such a rough life wouldn’t be so trusting of people but she was! She adored everyone she met instantly.
We loved this sweet girl with all of our hearts. She had such a massive presence here at Love Dogs. We will be feeling this loss for some time, that’s for sure, but we are so grateful for having the opportunity to give Jeni such an incredible final chapter of her life.
On the way back from bringing Jeni to Rainbow Bridge Pet Crematory in Yorktown we saw the most vibrant double rainbow. We have never seen anything like it before.. and we just our Jeni was riding that rainbow to the other side.

My beloved Archie...
Archie was one of our first ever Love Dogs Doggies.. He is sort of an embodiment of the best of Love Dogs.. our intentions... our aspirations and the people who participate in providing a sweet chapter of life for so many beautiful forgotten dogs. Dogs are so willing to forgive and embrace a new day... Archie and his adoptive family were all of it!!
His story was compelling and all of us who knew him will never forget him.. or the tenderhearted women who gave him his most perfect home!! Archie came from Chester Shelter in South Carolina. An amazing and inspirational animal advocate at Chester told us about this sweet unfortunate boy.. who had had injuries professionals surmised resulted from being thrown from a car!! We posted his story and before he even arrived in NY two incredible women stepped up to adopt him. They knew.. we knew and Archie would know he was and always would be loved everyday in every way each day of his life!! On the day and at the time the transport van arrived to us his adoptive family was there to take him home! |
LouLou
It is with profound sadness that we share news of dear Lou Lou's passing. She left this earth in the loving care of her adoring family.
It was only this Summer that Lou-Lou finally found her true home. There is no dog we know that was more deserving of that family.. her family.. They LOVE her so deeply and have given her the best days of her life! We are so very grateful to them for providing Lou-Lou with her greatest desire.. to be a beloved member of her own family.
We are all extremely heart broken and mourn deeply the loss of one of the sweetest, most joyful and loving creatures to grace our lives.
We are all offering Lou-Lou's family our support with prayers and so much gratitude. We ask that you hold her special family in your hearts and prayers.

Adele
Dearest darling Adele. one of the sweetest, friendliest, daintiest, loving, and most beautiful dogs we've ever known! We discovered Adele at a shelter from a photo of her skin and bones snuggling into a volunteer gazing up at the volunteer with pure love and a hopeful look that seems to ask.. are you my person?! We found her and her description irresistible, loving, sweet, gentle, happy, kind, pretty.. we had to save her! After the shelter she went to our fabulous care givers in SC who managed to put 8 lbs on her. She looked perfect and felt fantastic! Adele got rave reviews from all the women who cared for her.. she was such an easy girl, only wanted to please and get along!
When Adele arrived she came off the transport van as social and gracious as any dog could ever be! She was way prettier in person.. super friendly.. loves to snuggle and was a darling, sweet gentle honey of a dog! There was nothing lacking from this doggie.. She was cute and kind and smart and loving, curious confident (but not sassy!) we loved her so much from the very start.

Our beloved Adele became very suddenly ill in late October ..We took her down to A.S.C. right away where, after tests confirmed it, she was diagnosed with lymphoma.. We were all devastated and we did whatever we can to make her well without causing her to suffer. A special thanks goes out to our amazing volunteer Brian for being a true & special friend to Adele! It takes guts and a big heart & Brian has both! Thank you Brian!!

Cara
Cara passed over the rainbow bridge on Friday, Oct. 14th, 2016 surrounded by unconditional love and compassion. She was first rescued by Chesterfield Animal Care & Control from a hoarding, feral dog case in South Carolina. She was suddenly dropped into a world of unfamiliar people, places, sounds, smells.. She was terrified and confused. She underwent heart worm treatment, vet visits and transports. A very trying experience for a dog like her. We decided to take her knowing we were going to have to work extra hard to get her to be a suburban New York dog, we were ready and prepared to help this poor dog!
She arrived up at Love Dogs in May 2016 after spending some months at DawgPatch with Lynn and her amazing staff. When she arrived she was wide eyed, observant and certainly confused. She rolled through all of our leash walking, feeding, training, vetting exercises. And even our AFFECTION and LOVE exercises! Yes you read it right, we had to work hard to show her what love, affection, compassion and safety felt like. She was as close to feral as we've ever seen.
CARA emerged. I'll never forget the day she moved towards my hand to give it a lick. And the day I walked into her kennel to take her for a walk and she popped up, excited with her tail swirling in HUGE circles! And the day she finally walked on the leash down the farm street with her tail held high, excited and HAPPY to be alive! And, of course, the day we were sitting together in the paddock.. I was talking to her in my Cara voice and she put her ears back, wiggled her adorable, shepherd body towards me looking for affection! Tears roll down my face as I look back at these times we had together and her journey.. She had a spirit to her unlike any other dog we've seen.

She had 6 months of this until she suddenly started showing some troubling symptoms. Her belly was swollen, her appetite had gone away, she had lost her sparkle.. After many vet visits, consultations and an animal communication session in only a few short days, Cara's health deteriorated. She was staying at Animal Specialty Center in Yonkers so she can be under the medical care she needed to stay comfortable while we sent out test after test to figure out what is happening with her and how to get her better. Unfortunately, her cure never came. She was ready to leave us before we were ready to let her go. We brought her back to Love Dogs farm. She rested quietly where she wanted to, in her kennel, as we stroked her, shared memories and kissed her forehead. She left us relaxed and finally at peace.
Sadly, many of our questions were never answered even after a necropsy. What we do know is we learned more from her then, I believe, she learned from us. We are also certain that Cara came into our lives to teach us something; medically, behaviorally and spiritually. A piece of our hearts goes up with her as she leaves this earth to perpetual freedom.

Beautiful joy boy.. Bruno
There is so much to be said about BRUNO.. its almost hard to know where to begin.. He was magnificent boy.. completely at peace with himself and his world.. an old soul who seemed to know his purpose in the world..
HE LOVED FOOD! He loved people.. playing with toys.. riding in the car with the windows full open so he could take in the flood of scents and see the sights his arthritic body couldn't take him to.. He was always smiling.. ALWAYS! We tried in so many ways to get him more comfortable .. we did everything from acupuncture .. chiropractic & laser to CBD supplements and massage. EVERYONE ADORED BRUNO.. he had a happy life here at the farm.. this boy taught us all a lesson in how to live joyfully with gratitude for everything ..
One of his favorite and pretty much magical activities was catching a ride to the far end of the horse barn to visit a horse named EMERSON. Emerson was a troubled horse.. unsettled, anxious and difficult to touch. On his first encounter Bruno made his way to Emerson as if he knew he was there to meet that particular horse.. you could almost see a wave of gentle, soothing light washing over Emerson as Bruno hobbled his way to his open window. Emerson softly nickered ( a first!) to his new friend and reached his long neck as far down to Bruno's wet nose as he could. Bruno would settle in the grass outside Emerson's window .. showing him what relaxation, contentment and friendship looked like. On that very day Bruno's presence forever changed Emerson's life in a way no one would have thought possible..
Our visits continued through the summer until our lucky boy Bruno was given a home of his own by two of the kindest people we know. They took such loving and generous care of him .. were convinced they are actually angels on earth!! They brought Bruno to visit ... still coming for laser, other remedies.. and the unbridled affection of our entire crew!!
Sadly.... very very sadly the time came to say goodbye.... ( more to come.. just cant stop the tears just yet..)
Emerson now has a large pen outside his stall and is visited regularly by our rescue dogs! He loves being touched and has two horse pals he plays with in one of the giant fields at the farm.

A sad farewell in the Month we celebrate LOVE
Miss Maybe Smith passed away in the arms of her loving family on February 7th. One of our most devoted adoptive families took in Maybeline after adopting 2 other dogs from us! They seemed to know from the photos that each dog they adopted was meant to be with them. We cannot feel more gratitude to this incredible family who gave a life of love belonging and joy to 3 of our rescues, Archie, Ozzie and Maybe
"Today we said a very tearful goodbye to Maybelline- "Maybe" Smith, a wonderful rescue from your truly wonderful organization. Of all the dogs we have adopted, Maybe was MY dog. She waited by the door for me every night and slept next to me. I will miss her like crazy!"
