Meet Jasper! Such a sweet, love of a dog! Jasper is a special boy.. and has what we call the Angel Gene... it basically means that his precious soul runs deep and when he connects with you, you will have a partner for life! A gorgeous hound mix, Jasper has really cool markings unlike any other hound we’ve seen! Multicolored spots span his entire body, his coat soft as can be.
Jasper is a real goofy dog especially when in the yard with his doggie best friends! Thomas, Buttercup, Cora, Brownie… all bring out a real comical side to this boy! He will completely let loose during playtime. Often times a little too slow to catch his super fast counterparts lol! When there is a break in the sprints, he’ll find his moment, roll on his back in pure playful joy and start some gentle wrestling! Jasper has an exceptionally controlled and gentle play style and can even be with dogs as small as 10 lbs without concern.

Jasper was originally found as a stray with a jar stuck on his head. How awful! The amazing dog rescue team from Colleton County Shelter acted quickly and got this boy to safety. We aren’t sure where Jasper came from before his “jar head” incident but we don’t think it was somewhere with kindness at the forefront. He can be a little reserved at first meet but wants to be around you. His curiosity often takes over the fears and he will spend time checking you out and staying close by before becoming comfortable to be touched. When the trust is there and Jasper seeks out touch and connection, it is such a rewarding experience!
Jasper has some fears that we've observed, mostly pertaining to the environment. Things like a branch scratching on another branch in the wind or the rattle of a fence gate might be a cause for concern with him. He is getting better and better accepting sights and sounds that occur around him. He would do best in a home that is in a writer location. He would not thrive in a hustle-bustle city environment. Jasper walks perfectly on the leash, hardly ever pulling and walks wonderfully paired up with another confident doggie friend.
We are still getting to know Jasper as he settles in and sheds his fears. Check back updates here! If you'd like to come meet him, fill out an application and shoot us an email!
