Born to be FRIENDS! That is our rather small in size but HUGE in personality LEO!! Off the van.. his first matter of business was to deliver exuberant HELLOS to EVERYONE!! Not a long slobber hello but quick OH GOSH LET ME TAKE IT ALL IN BEFORE IT GOES AWAY kind of HELLO!!!
Clearly this sweet and wonderful blue dog hasn't had much if any chance in his young life to experience a natural flow of his body's energy and all his curious senses.. It was like he had to catch up on a great deal of "dogness" .. sniff, run, greet chase, repeat!! Once given the attention and time Leo showed us that he is eager to engage, even if for a moment!! LOL!! That was day one.. |
Leo made a friend! It's sometimes hard for Leo to control himself when playing with another dog.. he's just SO HAPPY and a little too rambunctious. We've worked hard to reinforce boundaries and it has paid off! Maddie is a perfect playmate!!

Day two three and four.. another version of our WINKIE boy LEO began to emerge.. He settled more each day, quickly understanding that this new way of life was now his way of life! While still enthusiastic and joyful Leo has found there's a lot of opportunities for many different but very cool ways of being a dog! Dog trainer Jamie has taught him to sit, and wait.. and watch.. to soften his gusto when requested.. and that there is ample time to run and jump and play in-between those calmer interludes!!
He is a smart dog as well as a four legged party!! He has a lions share of what we've all come to know as the pit bull clownishness! Highly entertaining .. at times utterly ridiculous and always HAPPY! In his kennel he is amazingly calm, very much at ease and quiet!

So having had Leo to our vet for his wellness check up we have learned that his blind eye will require some attention and he will be seeing the ophthalmologist soon.. we will update. For now he is a bouncy, active and eager little dude and is enjoying his education here at LOVE DOGS... We are all of course enjoying him even more!!!
While we do have Leo available for adoption we do want to hold on to him for a bit to address his medical issues and give him a chance to earn a degree from Jamies school of well mannered dogs!!

LEO Update!
SO MUCH FUN!! Leo is a super fun companion.. turns out he truly wants connection with all of his handler friends! PLUS .. within the safety of their "energy bubbles" Leo is quite brave and willing to trust. Example.. On his first days here Leo was freaked out and froze at the sight of a horse.. even from a distance, seeing horses calmly grazing in the field was a HOLY COW!!!! WTH are those giant creatures!! He didn't really know much about any of us and we were asking him to take in the "scenery" Leo wasn't at all comfortable with this arrangement!

Leo being super awesome and FRIENDLY at the vet office!
|
Over the days he began to see no one else was alarmed by the calm but very big animals... His walks expanded into the horse barn .. initially he didn't think crossing the threshold was wise but with an encouraging voice and tiny tugs he jumped through the door!!! The giant animals were in stalls quietly munching on hay.. they each nickered hello and advanced to their gates, dropping their heads out and down to get a better view of this sweet blue dog that came visiting!!! Well, now having been safely and thoughtfully acclimated, following his handlers lead.. our LEO walks through the stables.. greeting often nose to nose his equine pals!

Leo's Eye Surgery Update!
Leo had surgery to close up his undeveloped or injured eye and he has made a complete recovery! During his recovery, we had moved him into the Vic House to allow him a dust free and calmer environment. Turns out, he is super well behaved and happy in his new digs! So much so, we kept him there! So Leo has his vey own giant room to hang in!
