Sweet lovable huge hunk of hound doggie.. Packer has packed on a few extra pounds while recovering from his heart worm treatment.. but he will be svelte and fit before too long!! He's a honey, sensitive.. the big goofballs always are! He seemed very sad and shut down when he arrived to us after an overnight drive from North Carolina.. He didn't know what the next chapter held for him poor guy.. so we did our best to make him feel at home.. safe.. cared about and after a day we saw a whole different dog!

Three days in and Packer is showing us what a big mush he is... He loves to join our meetings and tours around the room.. going from one person to the next, soaking in love and affection. He likes a good lounge and easily rolls on his back for belly rubs!! He often lies in the frog position.. like a bear rug with hind legs flat out .. He entertains us with his antics.. somehow frequently getting himself into a pose that causes us all to look at him and go 'awwwwwwwwwww"...

Packer has to settle in a bit more.. & now that he is happy & relaxed with his new set of human friends we will start to expand his world and see how he responds to new things! We will post updates in the week ahead so check back soon!
We are all crushing on him .. he's such a sweet & handsome boy..

Update from Jamie the Dog Trainer: Sweet Packer has captured the hearts of just about everyone that has met him! It is hard not to fall deeply in love with this layered, soulful, handsome, hunk! Packs loves just about everyone he meets in his slinky, sensitive, soft wiggly way.

We have observed Packer to "pancake" when in pressured situations.. if he feels a bit nervous or when he isn't sure what to do he'll just drop to the floor and sometimes even flip on his back. Sometimes dogs learn that this is the best way to cope during a concerning situation. Many people might misinterpret and perceive this behavior as cute or may even bend down to pet his belly... however that is a big no-no in the DogCentric world! When Packer pancakes he's trying to communicate to us that he is threatened so the last thing we would ever want to do is make him feel even more trapped by bending over to pet him. We also don't want to feed into nervous behavior! We want to show him he no longer has to pancake! and work to build his confidence to prevent more pancaking situations.

Packer's confidence building program includes fun pack walks and playgroups with other dogs, agility jumps, wobble board balance game, fun tricks and outings! He absolutely loves car rides and will park himself right in the passenger seat like a human!

Packer and Bella Boa have become fast friends! As soon as we started on the walk together they both bounced into play bows and began rolling in the grass. An absolute LOVE show! While we have observed some... disagreements... from Packer with some of the other male dogs around the farm, he showed us today that he loves wiggly females!

Due to Packers sensitive nature, we believe a home with young children (13 and under) wouldn't be the best option for him. He will need a stable, quite yet active home to best set him up for future success!

Please check back for more updates as we get to know Packer!
