Piper
teeny tiny mature lady pom mix / female / 8 lbs
Darling teeny Piper.. she is a mature little lady weighing in at just 8 lbs. She has lovely light chocolatey coat with grey mixed in.. she recently got a refreshing grooming and is loved every minute of the warm attention from our awesome groomer Sandi!
Playful, smart and witty.. this girl has a sparkle in her eye that i can only interpret as gratitude and a wide open heart ready for a new chapter of her life to begin. Pipes is from the recent group of dogs rescued after they were dumped by the licensed puppy mill breeder. In puppy mills they often "cull" the dogs that are no longer "useful" (in their eyes!!). Usually it is because the dogs are not fit for breeding anymore so they just discard them. This time the breeder allowed a rescue group to come in and save the unwanted dogs from certain euthanasia. We rescued Piper and Lacee.
Although Piper has spent most of her life closed off from society in a puppy mill she has a zest for life and an admirable resilience! She's got a fun, upbeat energy that draws you in. When you approach Piper, she will initially do happy, bouncy twirls and even some adorable squeaky noises! She is so happy someone is finally seeing her!! Piper LOVES attention but you can tell she is not used to kind touch. As you bend down, she will cower a bit.. almost like she is bracing for what is to come next. (this learned behavior is similar to what we've seen in our previous puppy mill rescues.) When you reach out to allow her to smell, she will keep wagging her tail held low.. she'll bravely come forward and may even put a paw up on your leg to get closer!!
Pipes is little in size but is quiet active! She is still learning how to walk on the leash but truly loves the company of people and dogs. She s badly wants to be included! Piper spends a lot of her time sitting outside in the yards soaking up the sun with her doggy friends and Love Dogs handlers.. the outdoors is one of her favorite places to be!
Piper is slowly learning to trust humans even though it is the humans that, up until now, have only showed her a cold hand. We are absolutely certain that Piper will continue to come out of her shell and show us more of her fun loving personality! She will bring so much JOY into someone life.. she has already brought so much into ours in just a few days!
UPDATE: Piper has been hard at work gaining confidence on the leash with her trusted Love Dogs handlers. When Piper first came to us she would completely freeze up when the leash was placed on her. It was clear she had never walked on the leash before.. it was completely foreign to her! Over the last few weeks she and her handlers would work a little bit each day with the leash on in small stages and just the other day she held her head high and confidently followed her handler on a walk!! Motivation works very well for Piper.. she loves to walk for bits of chicken and will walk after her best doggy friends Prescott and Chip. No doubt, the sky is the limit for this girl! We are so proud of little Pipes!!
