Darling little Que has had a rough life. We rescued him from a puppy mill in South Carolina and it's clear he hasn't had very many positive interactions with humans. He most likely spent his entire life caged and malnourished, probably used for breeding until the puppy mill got shut down and he came to us.
Que is such a brave little guy. The first few days he could not stop trembling. The mere sight of one of us would send him into panic mode.. pacing and scrimping for a place to hide. When we go to pet him he flinches, preparing for what scary thing might come next. Poor little guy!! |
- Que's Story - |
We have been taking it very slow with Que. Allowing him to get settled into our routine that now includes us! He has relaxed A LOT since those first few days. He doesn't have many teeth so we spend a lot of time sitting with him and feeding him soft pieces of chicken. He LOVES chicken!!
He now understands to go in and out of his pen, gobbles his food down in seconds and looks to us for "what are we doing next?" anticipation! Still, there are a few things that just terrify him... being pet and leashed are two of them. He flinches every time he is touched and recoils at the thought. On the other hand, once we are able to get the leash on he is ready to go and will walk and walk and walk! He is quite the adventurous little dude! We have been working on a leashing up routine that helps him feel safe.. he is starting to get the hang of it!

A quiet moment with Que |
Que also adores being held.. while he doesn't like the action of being picked up, the being held part he LOVES. He instantly relaxes when he's in our arms and you can literally feel all the tension leave his muscles. He will often fall asleep too!
He finds comfort in other dogs and has befriended his housemate TJ. They sleep next to each other under the heater and go on walks together too! They walk through the barn and check out the horses.. Que often going under TJ's whole body for safety. Precious! Que needs a quiet and very patient home that is not in a super busy area. He needs time to calmly process what is going on around him and gain trust with people that will be interacting with him daily. Que needs that special person to finally give him the safety and warmth of a home. Something he has never felt. <3 |
