Next up on the Quirky Dog Corner is Navy!! We affectionally call him Navy Bean! Our sweet Navy Bean is one cool little dude! He has been with us for over a year at this point so we know him pretty well, I'd say! Keep reading below..!
Navy does indeed have some quirks. We have been able to successfully manage him and his antics though, and we know many home types would be able to, as well! When Navy first came to us he had some real trust issues specifically surrounding being leashed, unleashed and touched around his neck and back at times. He is quite sensitive in these areas. Over time, we learned many different ways to show Navy that we aren't going to hurt him and, even better, we are going to listen to him when he shows he is uncomfortable.
As the weeks went on, we all came together as a team to ensure we were all on the same page when handling Navy. Before we knew it, his sensitivities started to decrease and his overall demeanor settled down. He was trusting us and what a rewarding experience, at that!
Navy is one of our more complex dogs. He has layers to peel back, but don't we all? He has a history that is unknown and we believe he was most likely mistreated whoever he was previously.
While he waits for his special person to come find him, Navy soaks up all of our attention and thoroughly enjoys his life here on the farm! He and his best friend Hopper spend most of their day together going on long walks, hikes and romps in the yard. Navy will make someone an incredible companion, he just needs someone to take a chance on him!
Right now is a particularly bad time for shelters across America. As we predicted, after the COVID surge of tons of people buying and adopting puppies, many of them are now being surrendered to shelters as adult dogs.
