Ranger is a fabulous little labradoodle. He's spunky, quirky and energetic with a lively affectionate nature. He is actually a pure bred Australian Labradoodle.. and when he is feeling confident and safe, his true playful, happy self comes out and its magnificent to witness!
Ranger was originally bought by a family at the age of 8 weeks old by a breeder in Illinois. As time went on, his family quickly realized he was acting a bit different then previous puppies they raised. From a young age Ranger was fearful of new people, nervous in new environments and became barky and panicky anytime something changed that he was fully prepared for. After working with both a trainer and vet behaviorist, it was suggested that he be rehomed sooner then later to people who know how to handle this sort of behavior to get him on the right track. Enter Love Dogs! We are good friends with both the trainer and vet behaviorist that was working with Ranger and were asked if we could take him in, work with him a bit and find him an appropriate home. Of course we said YES! We would love to!
It's been a few weeks since Ranger arrived and he is doing exceptionally well. He has become friends with everyone that works here including some of the maintenance worker men! Gaining trust takes some time and a specific technique that we figured out. Lots of yummy treats and a long walk with a new person and you will come back best buds! He has become friends with a few doggies here. He tends to get along best with easy going, playful dogs. Dogs that will be up in his face or too charged will not be well received by Ranger.
Ranger can get a bit overwhelmed with too much stimulation, and then he doesn't know how to handle himself. Major components in his program are learning obedience commands like sit, down, stay, look, touch and come. As well as confidence building exercises like FitPaws, treadmill and agility. We are also working with Ranger on some behavior modification exercises to help him stay under threshold when he encounters a scary situation.
We aren't in a rush to get Ranger adopted.. we want to make sure it is the perfect home for him. It's clear he needs a particular home that can make him a priority in the comings and goings of life.
If you are interested in meeting Ranger or speaking to our trainer more about him, don't hesitant to reach out! Stay tuned for updates!!
