Glorious, sweet natured Rusty.. light on his feet and endearing boy. Rusty is some sort of golden retriever mix.. as we see in his occasional retrieving ability and super soft feathery coat! Rusty loves to run around the yard and will randomly choose a toy or stick to play a short game of fetch! He leaps and bounds in delight once he's found just the right toy for the moment but he especially loves the soccer ball!

Rusty has been with us for a few weeks now and is settling in nicely. When he first came off the transport van he was a bit confused.. took his nose to the ground while he quietly and slowly observing all that is around him. He greeted us with polite, curious sniffs and then leaning his head into our chest. We gently pet under his chin, allowing him the space to come and go as he felt comfortable. He really likes to be close to people he trusts! After a few days Rusty began to open up, showing us his playful and loose side.. what a treat! He'll now approach us with a swift tail wag and wide smile ready for whatever the day has in store.

Upon meeting someone new, Rusty is curious and reserved. He appreciates time to approach on his own time with freedom to walk away if needed... well don't we all?!  After a spending a little time with someone new.. walking, accepting treats and playing some fun games, he will slowly let his guard down. It's very normal for a dog to not trust immediately especially since they were once abandoned.. they have to learn that not everyone is going to hurt or leave them!

On a walk, Rusty rarely pulls on the leash. He walks like a perfect gentleman, occasionally darting forward to chase a squirrel or bird! Otherwise, he is right at your side exploring the grounds. Rusty gets along with most female dogs.. he can, at times, be a bit macho upon first meet.. the ideal type of dog would be one that can diffuse the initial greeting into a calm, playful state!
