Miss Savannah is a true Southern Belle... she arrived to us in 2015. The first few weeks, Savannah explored a lot as she became acclimated to her new surroundings. She quickly bonded with the Love Dogs staff while she soaked up the much needed cuddle sessions, long walks and fun doggie play groups! Savannah then started to show some defensive fear around new people and she surprised us by snapping at a visitor. Since then we have been working to figure out what exactly that "nerve" is for her and what is the trigger that causes her to become fearful and then defensive... she will lunge and bark at any new person that comes along..

Savannah has grown and bonded with so many of us here at Love Dogs. We have slowly but surely peeled back her layers trying to discover what she loves, what makes her thrive and what is it exactly about new people and certain situations that makes her wary... Well.. she loves to swim in the lake, to go on hikes, to play around with her favorite and most trusted staff member Ariana, scent detection training, clicker training and romping around with her buddy Gus and Brownie. In finding all of these activities that makes her HAPPY we have been able to incorporate little by little the things that make her uncomfortable. In turn working to desensitize, counter condition and widen her circle of trusted people. Check out the video below to see Savannah in all her glory!
Overtime, we realized that Savannah is SO happy here. Happy enough that we think if she had to choose, she would choose to stay here forever with her favorite and most trusted people and best dog friend Gus. Gus and Savannah live together in one of Snowman's indoor/outdoor houses. We call them husband and wife! They are each others constant companions and are so loving with one another. Savannah spends her days hunting for squirrels (she actually killed one a few months ago!), cuddling and playing with her peeps.. just as she would in a "real home"!
In 2019 Savannah was diagnosed with a degenerative spine disease. She was not well at one point.. however, she proved her badass self and has recovered incredibly well! With a good pain management and supplemental routine, you could not tell that Savannah has anything wrong with her! She is INCREDIBLE!!
