Snoop
pomeranian mix / male / 1 y/o / 14 lbs
Pure of heart with a brave soul, precious Snoop is a hilarious and bouncy little dude! You wouldn't believe the enthusiasm this young dog has when he's super happy! He'll hop, skip and trot in circles looking up at you with his huge Snoop SMILE and high, non stop tail wag! What a long way Mr. Snoop has come and we are so proud of him! when he first came off the transport van a few months ago he was so scared... tucked all the way in the back of his crate hiding behind his sister Paisley. You could see that just looking out at the big open space with unfamiliar faces looking back at him was overwhelming, let alone walking out there!
We moved very slow with Snoop in the beginning.. allowing him the space and opportunity for him to truly gain trust with us. During that time we were able to notice all of the things that made Snoop super HAPPY.. and we did all of these activities with him a lot! Things like taking chicken from our hands to get him to come out of the crate, playing with plush squeaky toys, romping in the yard with dog friends Finney, Lucy, Jessie and Penny, hanging out on the couch in the living room, taking long walks to familiar places... he is so joyful and confident when he is in familiar situations! He now walks out of the crate with ease.. willing and eager to take on the day with his trusted handler. Whereas before he would hide in the back worried about what might happen if he comes out.
It didn't take long for Snoop to learn that walking on the leash is awesome and it leads to super fun experiences.. not all of these new places have to be scary... He is truly learning how to be happy out there in the big world and his huge smile radiates new found confidence! He now trots right along while on a walk and comes in for under the chin scratches... his favorite! His soft, fluffy fur is irresistible!! Of course, we continue to respect his space and only pet him when he’s comfortable and coming towards us.
Still some new scenarios, like walking on the leash in a new area or meeting a new person can still be a cause for concern for Snoop so we continue to... little by little... broaden his horizons. Snoop just adores other dogs and he feels much more confident around them. He is his happiest when out in the yard with his best friend Finney! In the beginning, we used his doggie friends all of the time to help buffer the scary moments. He used to not be able to handle a long walk without another dog by his side. Now things have changed as Snoop's confidence grows and grows! While we still do a lot of Snoop's activities with his dog friends, we also do a ton of stuff with Snoop by himself and he's perfectly happy! We are however looking for a home for Snoop that has another dog or for him to be adopted with one of his buddies!
Snoop has an adorable appearance that draws people in. However, it is important that whoever he goes home with will have to continue to support him in his fearful/panic moments. Snoop is incredibly connected, I am surprised at just how much eye contact he makes, even in the beginning when he was super scared! He is inquisitive and he so badly wants to trust and break free of his learned fears that continue to linger. Snoop reminds of that loyal friend who will always be there for you.. I imagine whoever he makes a bond with, it will never be broken. He’s a deep, gentle soul who has only love to give!
UPDATE: We recently took Snoop, Lucy and Finney to the playground for an outing! We weren't sure how Snoop would handling it as this would be his first outing since being with us. Naturally, he was a bit reserved throughout the outing but followed the lead of Finney, Lucy and his handlers. After a few minutes his tail came out from between his legs and started his signature Snoop non stop tail wag! He followed us up and into the jungle jim and much to our surprise... he went down the slide on his own... twice! We couldn't believe our eyes!! Not many dogs will take a leap of faith and jump down the slide.. but here is our scared little Snoop coming-on-down! We are so proud of our Snoopy boy. He has come such a long way!
