The reality of the situation is that you think this is ok but the truth of the matter is that it is not really an ok thing so don't do that
A Few Things to Know About Us....
We are passionate about DOGS .. we truly do love everything about them! We are devoted to improving the lives of dogs & the relationship shared dogs and people.. Through our years of work we have gained a tremendous amount of experience and learned tons about dogs.. seen stuff that works and other stuff that doesn't. There are a lot of "products" and ideas out there and at first glance you might think ok that sounds good.. We've scratched below the surface on many and want to warn you about a several that have shaped our policies.
Stuff that seem OK BUT are NOT OK..
"Doggie doors" .. these are smaller openings in a regular door that permit a pet to gain access to outdoors unsupervised.
Why its NOT a good idea~
1) Predators can find ways to enter your yard. In one incident we know of a pack of coyotes attacked and killed a male dog who defended his canine family.
2) Fencing isnt always secure. We are aware of too many unfortunate incidents of a dog discovering an escape route missed by their owner or dug under the fence line and getting out and lost.. Its a very painful ordeal to search for a missing dog.. in another incident the escaped dog was hit by a car.. BOTTOM LINE ..its not worth the risk.
3) If you have a swimming pool you should be aware of the statistics annually of dogs drowning! We've seen dogs accidentally fall into a pool .. they panic and do not know how to get out. Dogs will try to climb out of the pool at the edge until they are literally exhausted to death.. They dont know they can swim to the steps and walk out of the water.
"INVISIBLE FENCING"... A live wire is placed underground.. the dog wears a collar that buzzes when he/she approaches the line.
Why we Dont like this method of "containment"
1)We do not believe that punishing methods are ever necessary and in fact are destructive to the bond of trust you wish to build with your dog.
2) Other animals can enter your property and cause trouble..
3) Your dog may spot a herd of deer accross "the line" and his/her prey drive overrides the fear of electric shock to his/her neck. Once outside the live wire your dog will not have the drive to take the hit in order to get back to his/her yard!! Dogs all too often end up getting zapped with shock when owner forgets and fails to remove the collar before driving across the wire in a vehicle!
There is an ACTUAL & very BEAUTIFUL DOG LANGUAGE... its mostly a body language.. its also about energy ....Yours .. the environment.. and how it affects your dog. We want to share as much as we know with you so that you can enjoy your dogs as much as we do!! ! Knowing dogs as we do there are a few topics we feel we need to be up front about..
Just as we'd not expect anyone to use force on a child we do not advocate in anyway the use of punishment in teaching/training a dog.. any dog at any time for any reason.
