WELCOME to For the Love of Dogs Rescue |
About us
For over 15 years For the Love of Dogs Rescue has been a safe haven for dogs in need. We share a 50+ acre horse farm in Westchester County NY with retired and rescued horses and ponies. The farm sits quietly inside wooded preserve. There are endless trails, rolling pastures & play yards for dogs and their handlers to explore. The shy, injured and misunderstood dogs have countless opportunities to discover their truest selves by givenfreely following their noses gives us the ability to focus our attention on helping dogs that need extra time and tend to be overlooked in other shelters. Since our beginning we have saved and rescued over 1000+ dogs! Over the years, we have a group of what we call our "Homies"; these are dogs that have become part of our family.
In loving memory of.. Elle ❤️
Earlier this month, Elle made her way over the rainbow bridge, leaving a profound void in all of our hearts. This loss is particularly difficult as Elle was our original Love Dog, the one who began our journey. The rescue feels emptier without her, and words cannot express the magnitude of our sorrow. Yet, we find solace in knowing that her spirit endures in every aspect of our work.
In the news!June 2024Kiddie pools and water hose games were the best way to keep cool during this week's heat wave!
Jaxx and Alf arrived on Wednesday (6/12). Unfortunately, their owner had passed away and left these two older gentlemen in need of urgent care. We didn't hesitate to take them in! They have been adjusting well since being with us!
The next day, our fantastic groomer, Sandi, came to provide a much-needed spa day for these little guys! They were unbothered by everything from the sudsy soak to the clipping. They waited patiently as she meticulously removed years of matted fur, giving them a clean and fresh new look; they relished every moment of the pampering!

Dog in the SPotlight!Samson Samson is an incredibly sweet boy who like a typical Great Pyr thrives on taking long, strolling tours of his domain. He is lovely on a leash.. easy going, naturally engaged with his handler.. often checking in with his beautiful soft eyes .. he happily comes when called! When he initially arrived, he didn't show any interest in chasing squirrels, chipmunks and the like.. he showed no apparent prey drive. Recently, having grown up a bit, he does show interest and will most often pause, observe and assess.. he does like to chase off the geese and notices birds, the barn cats and little scurrying rodents.. but if asked to stay in the observe phase he is remarkably good at doing so!! Here at LOVE DOGS we use 15 ft long leashes so dogs are free to follow their noses & Samson is a dog that could happily do this all day! He truly enjoys tracing scents and investigating matters as he sees fit. Its like his favorite job and it truly does fulfill him! At times Samson finds an irresistible scent he is compelled to roll on. Even though he is an incredibly elegant and magnificent boy when he does his roll and rub in the grass is looks like a completely awkward goofball!! Then there are those wonderful moments when he "busts a move" and performs a mini, silly looking zoomie burst.. but easily can "return to his senses" and pick up where he left off on the patrol walk!! |
